At Macquarie University, we consider students who come to the university after some life experience to be an asset to the University. They bring with them a broad range of skills and experiences that are useful to their own studies and often invaluable to the learning experience of others.
Prospective students, who are not recent school leavers, are often faced with challenges that fundamentally differ from those faced by the bulk of students. That’s why we are prepared to give all the support that they need in helping with their studies.
All applications must go through the Universities Admission Centre (UAC) to get into Macquarie’s degree programs. There are, however, numerous pathways to Macquarie, including recognition of past study, vocational training and non-award alternatives.
You are required to transfer through UAC. UAC will take into account both your academic record at tertiary level as well as your UAI. Students who have only completed up to six months of tertiary study and seek to reapply through UAC will be selected based on the best of their tertiary study or their UAI, whichever is higher.
If you are classified as mature age (over 21 years of age) you may be eligible to apply for admission through the Jubilee Scheme. This scheme offers entry into the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education) degrees or you may use a Non-award study program to open up some doors.
Once you’ve sorted out which course you may like to undertake, the next step is applying to Macquarie. Then there’s enrolling. Use these links to get all the details and remember the key dates involved must be adhered to strictly.
Once you settle into university study, think about getting involved – uni is not all about study! To balance the effort you’re putting in to get your degree, expand your interests, friendships and mind frame by looking into one or more of the Macquarie clubs and societies, the campus student organisation, Students at Macquarie, some of the ‘student exchange’ options and other opportunities to go beyond your own borders
Take advantage of the study support available. Depending on your circumstances you may also want to look at information on accommodation, transport and parking and student support to make your life hassle free at Macquarie.
