Fee Paying Places

Commonwealth Supported Places

Macquarie offers Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) for which the Australian Government makes a financial contribution towards the costs of a program of study.

If you are enrolled in a unit of study as a Commonwealth supported student, you will generally be required to contribute to the cost of your education through a student contribution. Macquarie sets the student contribution amount you are required to pay. The amount depends on your course of study.

The five main advantages of being a Commonwealth supported student are:

  • the Australian Government contributes to the cost of your education
  • the Australian Government limits the amount your provider can charge as a student contribution
  • you may be eligible for HECS-HELP assistance to pay your student contribution. If you are eligible, you may access both the HECS-HELP loan and the discount to pay your student contribution
  • you may be eligible for a Commonwealth Learning Scholarship (CLS). There are two types of scholarships – one for general education costs and one for accommodation costs
  • you may be eligible for OS-HELP assistance. OS-HELP is a loan scheme to assist eligible undergraduate students to undertake some of their course of study overseas.

From 1 January 2009 the Government has abolished tuition fee places for higher education undergraduate students, with only CSP places available for new students.

Courses are listed in the 2009 UAC Guide.

International Students

International students are not eligible for a CSP place (unless you are an Australian citizen). The Macquarie University International Student Fees Policy sets out the guidelines for how much you will pay for particular courses, and for additional costs which you may have to pay.
