Choosing a Course

Going to university will be a big change in your life, so you need to make sure you’ve picked the right undergraduate degree. This is not just a case of deciding that the name of the degree program sounds okay and that the UAI is achievable. You should make sure that you choose a course that will engage you, build you as a person, and assure you of a career once you’ve left Macquarie University.

Investigate the required subjects and electives involved to decide if it’s right for you and actually covers what you want and need to learn. You might also want to browse through all the programs we offer at Macquarie University to see if there’s something you hadn’t thought of before, that could be just right for you

Subject Areas

If you are looking to do an undergraduate degree at Macquarie University, but you haven’t decided on a specific degree program, you need to get as much information as you can to help you make the choice.  You can begin by looking at the either the Subject Areas section which gathers together groups of related subject listings or the A-Z Subject Listing which provides an alphabetical approach to the subjects.  These broad categories will give you information on such things as what the Subject Area is about, the degrees in which you can study those subjects, career options, recommended prior knowledge and degree accreditation.

Degrees and UAIs

Once you have settled on the broad area of interest, look more deeply at the degree of your choice.  There is a full listing of all the degrees offered in the List of Degrees and UAIs as well as an indication from the previous year of the UAI required.

The Macquarie University Handbook also provides an alphabetical list of undergraduate degrees on offer and access to general requirements for each. To discover what units of study are available, the University Handbook Programs of Study page will provide information on the specific units that are studied within the degrees, descriptions of these units and when they are offered for study (day, evening, external, etc).

Study Options

One of the other things to consider when choosing a course is what study option you are going to take.  Macquarie University offers a full range from full and part time study to distance education or a mixture of both.
