The Area of Study

Macquarie University offers programs in the experimental medical sciences which include biochemistry, physiology, microbiology, genetics, medical chemistry and psychology.

Studies in the medical sciences provide a broad range of practical and applied sciences required in the medical, biomedical and related health professions. The program for the Bachelor of Medical Sciences is prescribed. In the first year, you must take biology, chemistry, psychology, physics, statistics and mathematics. In the next two years, you choose to specialise in one of three strands (biomedical, medical chemistry or psychomedical sciences).

Recommended Prior Knowledge

HSC Mathematics (Band 2) plus Chemistry (Band 3), or their equivalents, are recommended studies for biology and chemistry units. Other units taken as part of a degree may require assumed knowledge, prerequisites or recommended studies and you should refer to the Macquarie University Handbook of Undergraduate Studies for full degree requirements.
