Geography — Human

The Area of Study

Human geography has a strong applied focus involving matters such as social and community planning, health and health care delivery, population studies, development studies, resource and environmental management, public policy development, urban and regional management and geographic information science. Human geographers work with physical geographers in studying relationships between people and their environment. Much of the work of human geographers also has close affinity with the social sciences and the humanities.

The Macquarie University Bachelor of Planning is an interdisciplinary program with a social and environmental orientation to planning that marks out a distinctive edge for graduates compared to more traditional programs with their narrower focus on urban design and architecture. It builds on Macquarie University’s existing strengths in urban studies to integrate economic, social, environmental and cultural dimensions of planning and urban management.
