Geoecology

The Area of Study

Geoecology examines the connections between all parts of the physical environment which define the landscapes: soil, rivers, topography, climate, and plant and animal communities. Geoecology focuses on the study of soil, landforms and erosion, both process and management, and their relationships with the biosphere and climate. The emphasis is on understanding natural processes occurring in the environment which affect many resource use and human activities, such as natural hazards, soil formation and erosion, river processes and management.

The Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees offer you maximum program flexibility and include first year study of earth sciences and a wide choice of subjects such as biology, chemistry, environmental science, geology, human geography, statistics, computing, mathematics and physics. Later units may include geomorphology, soils, environmental change, applied geomorphology and environmental management.

The Bachelor of Environmental Science program (physical geography) includes study of biology, chemistry and mathematics, physics or computing, in addition to earth science and environmental science in first year, and advanced environmental science units later.
