Bioinformatics

The Area of Study

Bioinformatics is the management and analysis of large datasets. One of the main growth areas in this field is the analysis and annotation of DNA sequence data, notably with the completion of the human genome sequence, and the genomes of many other organisms.

Bioinformatics is also central to the maintenance of biological collections, rapid biodiversity assessment, proteomics and biotechnology. Macquarie University offers a unique combination of subjects that combine basic biological knowledge with statistical and computing units to equip you in one of the fastest growing areas of research and employment.

The Bachelor of Science offers maximum program flexibility allowing you to combine bioinformatics with specialised subjects on topics such as computing, statistics, mathematics, conservation and biodiversity issues.
