Future Students

Biodiversity and Conservation

The Area of Study

For students interested in environmental issues and how organisms in the environment interact, Macquarie University offers a unique combination of subjects that combine basic biological knowledge with environmental and conservation management issues. This includes:

  • Ecology — the study of plants, animals and micro-organisms in relation to each other and their environment;
  • Biodiversity — the study of biological variety and of how this variety can be understood and classified;
  • Conservation biology — the study of how biological diversity can be conserved for the future and is a subject that draws together basic biological and ecological principles with those of genetics, taxonomy and evolutionary biology.

The Bachelor of Science offers maximum program flexibility allowing you to combine ecology with specialised subjects on topics such as environmental sciences, conservation and biodiversity, natural sciences and the marine environment.
