Education - Primary Teaching

The Area Of Study

If you want to teach in primary schools you will be required to spread your studies widely within the Bachelor of Arts with Diploma of Education, and include a major study in education. All intending teachers in a Bachelor of Arts with Diploma of Education take two kinds of units in education: those related to issues, theories and problems of education, and units in curriculum, methodology and the practical skills of teaching.

Within Macquarie University’s undergraduate teacher education program you will take your education units concurrently with your other studies rather than subsequent to them. In undertaking your professional units in the third and fourth years of your program you will work in cooperation with a ‘master teacher’ in a school over the year.

If you are interested in school counselling, you are advised to complete the Bachelor of Arts – Psychology with Diploma of Education as your first degree and then complete a second qualification in school counselling.
