Early Childhood Studies

The Area Of Study

In addition to teacher education programs, the Institute of EarlyChildhood offers the opportunity to study a range of subjects which can lead to a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Early Childhood Studies. A specialisation in the understanding of young children (from birth through to age eight) enables you to work in a variety of areas including policy development, community services, and the media.

The Institute of Early Childhood provides units of study which consider the development of children (including those with disabilities). Young children’s learning and experience of the arts, literacy, maths, science and technology is explored, as well as the management principles and skills necessary for leadership positions in children’s services.

This degree will not qualify you to teach in educational settings with young children, but will enable you to specialise in early childhood studies. It may supplement study or experience in other social sciences including behavioural science, psychology and sociology.
