Creative Arts

The Area of Study

The program in creative arts is multidisciplinary and designed for those seeking employment in the arts or public services, focusing especially on arts administration. It addresses the needs of people working in theatre, film, publishing, galleries and museums, arts, funding organisations, regional art centres and educational institutions.

The Bachelor of Creative Arts is designed to help students understand the role and function of the arts in society, shaped as they are by historical, social, political and economic forces; to develop management, liaison and technological skills suitable for employment in arts-related organisations, and to combine practical administrative skills with the ability to research in, and think critically about, the arts, in the context of policy planning and organisational management.

The degree program combines a series of core units in cultural history, aesthetics, arts management and administration, accounting, marketing fundamentals, human resource management and practicum units, with in-depth elective strands of either music, performance drama, creative writing, or visual arts and multimedia as major studies.
